Cancer Fund of America was started in 1984. It claims itself in pledge letters that it comes on the front lines of the fight against cancer. But the main activity of Cancer Fund of America has nothing to do with research funding or pay for cancer treatment. Instead, the charity collects the donated goods - including air fresheners, shampoo and DVDs and ships them across the country for dying patients and families who have broken deeply while trying to save their loved ones .

Cancer patients get some help to make their lives a little comfortable and easier. But while gift baskets just consist of trinkets and toiletries, the for-profit fundraisers take their home millions of dollars every year. The founder of CFA and at least 12 other family members earn almost $ 1 million in the name of salary from CFA and four spin-off charities.

CANCER FUND OF AMERICA In The Past Years

From decades, this waste usage has been going on. With each upcoming year, CFA raises millions of dollars and sends 82 percent of its profit to fundraisers. During the last decade, fundraisers raised $ 98 million in donations. Patients received less than $ 1 million in direct cash assistance during these 10 years, records from the IRS show.

In 1991, the founder of CFA, James T. Reynolds Sr. said that he intended to reduce the high costs of charity's fund-raising. But over 20 years later, it still takes more than 83 cents, for fundraising, of every dollar raised.

Reynolds referred all the questions to his lawyer. Regarding the fund-raising expenses of his charity, he said, "I can not help that some things are expensive."

"We can help others only with the funds we net either 90 percent or 30" words by Reynolds.
